Bravissimo Peepli Live

BollyDance 2010

Witty, brillant, and touching, Peepli Live was a welcome surprise during the Sundance Film Festival. Anusha Rizvi delivers an unfortunate tale the viewer could only wish to not be true. With a full heart and empty pockets, Natha (Omkar Das Manikpruri) is forced to play his part in a circus of events that would eventually either end his life, or even worse, take his family and farm. Caught up in a media and political frenzy, Natha's choices are limited. Even with its serious nature, this film is full of funny moments worthy of laughter and heartfelt moments worthy of tears. I really enjoyed the question/answer session that followed the film. I admired Mahmood FarooQui, co-director challenging the audience to make the world a better place for all people, including the poor.
